Royally Roma is an energetic, charming read. Teri Wilson consistently writes great modern-day retellings and her take on Roman Holiday had wonderful nods to the Audrey Hepburn/Gregory Peck classic while still maintaining its own identity.Put aside your disbelief and enjoy a modern day fairytale where a dutiful prince in dire need of taking a break from cleaning up his brother’s messes impulsively takes off and explores the wonders of Rome with his beautiful American tour guide. I held off on writing this review for a couple of days because I was a bit torn about this book. Nico and Julia are both likeable characters who brighten up the page when they’re together. I loved how Ms. Wilson made Rome come alive on the page as Julia and Nico zipped from place to place. Even the more serious moments of Royally Roma couldn’t dampen the story’s sunny appeal. That being said, what took the book down a few notches for me was the romance. I really liked Nico and Julia together and given the whirlwind nature of the source material the breakneck speed of the romance wasn’t an issue for me. What did bother me was that Nico starts out the story keeping his identity a secret from Julia and this goes on for so long that it did make the romance a bit hard to swallow. If their falling in love had been a bit more drawn out or if Julia had gotten to know all of Nico’s character for more of the book, then I would have been more satisfied. You can have either a whirlwind romance or a secret identity, but both together is a bit much. Added to that the ending was abrupt and left me wanting more. If there had at least been an epilogue I would have satisfied. Even with these issues I found Royally Roma to be a lively, charming story and I’m looking forward to reading the next Royals book.

Royally Roma The Royals Book 1 eBook Teri Wilson Reviews
I really wanted to thoroughly enjoy this book. I did. A reverse Roman Holiday, who wouldn't want that? I was ready to love the careful and cautious trou guide and the responsible prince.
But this book didn't quite do it for me, and I'm frustrated. I'm not a fan of the K-Drama esque repeating of lines when the characters felt something (to the poont where we would hve the exact same sentence in regular font then italics), nor am I a fan of the first chapter where we started right in the middle.
But mostly I wasn't convinced by these characters' love story. They both had major, major issues that they were so introspective about (so much that it felt repetetive), but never really discussed with each other. I can't quite believe it's still love after they find out these truths about each other, because they are heavy truths. Their attraction felt mostly sexual, which isn't bad, but isn't really the basis of a relationship.
And the ending! It came out from almost nowhere! Like the author realized she'd written herself into a corner and brought out a plot point that she forgot to pick up on.
I can think of a few people who would enjoy this, but it just wasn't for me.
I loved the way Teri Wilson incorporated romance and adventure in “Royally Roma” The genre of “Royally Roma” is Romance. I appreciate the author’s descriptions of the scenery and significant destinations to tour in Rome. The architecture and history of the Coliseum (Colosseum), statues, restored ruins, fountains, and churches are depicted.
Teri Wilson describes the characters as complex, complicated, overwhelmed and secretive.
Julia Costa has run away from home in America , where her father has embezzled millions of dollars from clients, and now is in jail. Julia is ambitious and is working as a tour guide in Rome to help pay her expenses, so she can finish her thesis for her Masters in Archeology.
Niccolo La Torre, is the Crown Prince of Lazaretto, has the responsibilities of traveling to different countries as an ambassador of good will. Niccolo is also responsible for cleaning up his older brother’s embarrassing actions that reflect on his country. Niccolo needs to have some freedom.
Julia goes to the hotel to meet her client for her tour. Julia presumes that Niccolo is her client and they start on their adventure. Of course, Julia doesn’t know who Niccolo is and Niccolo has no idea of Julia’s family history. Both have reason to avoid the press or Paparazzi.
Is there such a person as Prince Charming? Does Julia finally get her happily ever after?
This was a charming, enchanting and sexy story with lots of adventure. I would recommend it highly. I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
I loved the premise of a reverse Roman Holiday. I'm a sucker for old Hollywood so this plot was intriguing. On top of that, it's a girl's Cinderella dream come true! I was envious of Julia but so rooting for their happy ever after.
Nico is clearly living in a gilded cage and like other stories we may be familiar with, his breath of fresh air comes in the form of American tour guide living in Rome named Julia Costa. Turns out he's not the only one hiding his true self. Julia also has skeletons in her closet that have shaped her persona and certainly contributed to her living in Rome. Speaking of Rome, I felt it was just as much a character as Nico and Julia. I could feel myself traveling in the Vespa taking in all the sights!
But of course, what would a story be without conflict? Aside from the obvious sexual tension between the two characters (and aren't those just so much fun to read?), I cringed and felt the pain when all the truths came out. I closed my eyes when misunderstandings (especially on Nico's part) occurred. And I felt their pain when all seemed hopeless because of their disparate positions in life. But Teri couldn't leave us with a sad ending; that defeats the purpose of this "modern day fairy tale." And so we have an ending we can swoon over. I just wish I knew more! How frustrating not to know how happy their ever after really was haha. But it's okay! I still loved the story!
